HOMEMADE SALAD DRESSING
Making salad dressing at home is one of those things you don’t always think to do. But once you start making dressing at home you will wonder why you weren’t always doing it.
It will be so much more flavorful, fresh and far less salty. I find the taste of salt and preservatives in store bought dressing to be overwhelming. Making your own dressing means you control the ingredients and flavors to suit your own preferences.
INGREDIENT OPTIONS:
This is a fairly basic version of Homemade Italian Dressing. Feel free to adjust any ingredients to fit your tastes.
The mayo can be omitted entirely, it is just in there as a binder to create a slightly thicker dressing. Or add more for a creamier dressing.
A pinch of dried red pepper flakes give this dressing a little pep.
Garlic powder can be used instead of fresh garlic.
Add more or less dried Italian seasoning.
Parmesan cheese can be omitted or increased for a cheesier dressing. I use the powdered parmesan, like what you would get at a pizza joint.
Add more or less honey. Or granulated sugar can be used instead.
SALAD DRESSING STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Store salad dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use within 1 week.
I prefer to store my dressings in glass jars with secure lids. This makes mixing it easy by just shaking the jar.
The dressing will separate and the oil may solidify. Remove from refrigerator 30-60 minutes before use to allow oil to come to room temperature. Shake vigorously to combine all ingredients.
